Bring The Following
For anyone to attend the races at Hakskeenpan, the following is a guide to make your stay more pleasant:
- Binoculars
Vehicles disappear very fast. - Shade
bring a large umbrella or at least a hat. Screen tent or free standing canopy, etc. - Sunglasses
There is a lot of sunshine and it is reflected up off the pan. - Sun Screen.
- Folding Chairs.
- Plastic Tarp
For under your chairs. Smooth soled shoes also help. - Cooler Box
Having a supply of drinking water is important. Refreshments and foodstalls will also be available. - Alternative Transport
Bicycles, scooters, etc. are very welcome as some distances are too far to cover on foot. There will also be a mountain bike trail if you would like to go for a ride into the surrounding area. - Meet New People
Be prepared to meet nice people, racers and spectators alike. The pits are open and racing participant's racers welcome you to look and talk. You will be welcome to look in everywhere. - Optional Entertainment.
Hakskeenpan racing is not fast paced between runs. It is a relaxing good time. Bring a good book, the day's paper (yeah right...in the desert??) or something to keep you busy, fill in the slack times and assure a great day all round. You can take a nap, work on your tan or chat to fellow petrolheads. Admiration of the different vehicles is also welcome. - Telescope
Should you be able to bring a good one, we guarantee one of the best star gazing venues in South Africa. The night sky is simply awesome with no city lights to cloud the brilliance of the stars. - Camera
Because you would want to remember what you see. Bring your zoom lens or telescopic lens with - at the high speed area you are not close to the track. - Temperature.
Day average for September is 25°+ so bring your safari suit (haha). Nights average 10°+ so also bring warm clothing and bedding fr just in case. - Camping.
If you have not prebooked a tent, then you need to bring your own accommodation: tent, caravan, mobile home , etc. - Lighting
There is no street lights, so bring plenty of lighting with for example torches, batteries and gas lamps. Despatching of search parties to find you cause you got lost in the dark will cost extra. - Radio
Bring your portable radio with. Event announcements will be broadcast on a PA system and on a special Hakskeenpan frequency. - See the "What to Expect" page.
This is racing that's put on by racers, for racers. For many, Hakskeenpan will represent the last area of motorsports where people are encouraged to come up with their own ideas and try them out without the need for million rand sponsorships. You won't find corporate suites of restaurants overlooking Hakskeenpan, just a buzzing group of enthusiasts roughing it in style on a desert pan. Join us for an exceptional experience and adventure.
